Insert microwave candy thermometer and microwave (high--100%) 9 to 11 minutes or until 240F is reached. Add vanilla and pecans. Stir until mixture begins to thicken and is no longer glossy. Drop on waxed paper. Let stand until set.
Combine 1-1/2 cups pecans and 1 tsp butter in a small glass measure. Microwave (high--100%) 2 to 2-1/2 minutes or until lightly toasted, stirring twice.
