Dutch Spice Cookies

1 cup shortening
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 egg
2-1/4 cup flour, sifted
1/2 teaspoon soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon cloves
1/2 cup pecans, finely chopped

Preheat oven to 375F. Cream shortening and sugars. Add egg and beat well. Sift flour together with soda, salt and spices. Add pecans. Shape into rolls about 2 inch across. Wrap in waxed paper. Chill thoroughly. Slice very thin, 1/8 inch or less. Bake 1 inch apart on lightly greased cookie sheet in 375F oven at 5-7 minutes or until lightly browned. Remove at once to rack.
