Jam Cake

1 cup sugar
1 cup butter
1 cup buttermilk
3 cups flour
1 cup jam
1 tsp baking soda
2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp cloves
1/2 tsp nutmeg
2 eggs

Mix all ingredients together. Bake in oblong pan at 350F until sides pull away from pan or until done. Let cake cool.

Icing:
1/2 cup butter
1 lb brown sugar
1 cup rich cream

Put butter and sugar in pan. Stir constantly for 10 minutes. Add cream and boil to soft ball stage. Let cool. Pour icing over cake and serve after both icing and cake are cool.
