Old Fashion Bread Pudding

1/2 French bread
4-1/2 cups milk
One 15-1/4 oz can of crushed pineapple
3/4 cup dry raisins
4 eggs
1 tbs vanilla
1 cup sugar
2 tbs melted margarine

Preheat oven to 350F. Grease or spray 9x13 inch glass (or other pan). In a large bowl, break the bread up into small pieces, add milk, and mash well. Separate yolks of eggs from egg whites. Beat egg yolks and sugar together, add vanilla, add all other ingredients, and mix thoroughly. Pour into pan and bake for one hour or until slightly brown.

Meringue:
3 tbs of sugar
1/4 tsp of cream of tartar
1 tsp of vanilla

Beat egg whites, add ingredients. Beat until meringue stands in peak. Mix well and add meringue to top of pudding. Return to oven at 400F for ten minutes, or until brown. Cool for one hour before cutting.
