Pecan Cake 1

1 cup sugar
1 tbs corn starch
1/2 cup water
1 tsp vanilla extract (optional)
1/4 tsp salt
1 cup pecans
4 tbs butter
1 box yellow cake mix

Bake cake as directed on the pkg. Combine sugar, corn starch, water and salt. Bring the mixture to a boil and cook until the sugar is dissolved, stirring frequently. Add vanilla extract, butter and pecans. Return to a boil and cook until slightly thickened, stirring constantly. Spread quickly over the cake as a filling and as a topping. This recipe will also cover a 9x13 inch sheet cake.
