Apple and Wilted Lettuce Salad
- 1-1/2 quarts torn romaine lettuce
- 1 quart torn leaf lettuce
- 2 Washington Red or Golden Delicious apples, cored and sliced
- 1/2 cup sliced celery
- 6 slices bacon
- 1/3 cup cider vinegar
- 1/4 cup water
- 1 pkg Italian salad dressing mix
- 2 tsp sugar
- 1/4 cup sliced green onion
- Freshly ground pepper
Place greens, apples and celery in salad bowl. Fry bacon until crisp; reserve drippings. Drain and crumble bacon. Add vinegar, water, dressing mix and sugar to drippings. Heat to boiling. Pour over salad; sprinkle with bacon. green onion and pepper. Toss gently. Serve immediately.
