Banana Bran Bread

1/3 cup shortening
3/4 cup sugar
1 egg, well beaten
2 cup bran flakes
1-1/2 cup sifted flour
2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts
1-1/2 cup mashed bananas
2 tbs water
1 tsp vanilla

Cream well together shortening and sugar. Add egg and bran flakes. Sift together flour, baking powder, salt and soda. Add nuts. Combine bananas and water. Add to creamed mixture alternately with dry ingredients; stir in vanilla. Bake in greased and floured 8 inch loaf pans in moderate oven (350F) about 50 minutes.

Makes 2 loaves.
