Raisin-Bran Bread

2 cups buttermilk or thick sour milk
2 cups all-bran cereal
2 tsp baking soda
1-1/4 cup brown sugar
1 tsp salt
1 cup raisins or chopped dates
1/3 cup chopped walnuts or pecans
2 cups sifted flour

Pour buttermilk over bran and let stand 10 minutes. Add sugar, baking soda and salt, stirring well. Mix fruit and nuts with flour. Stir into bran mixture. Bake in greased and floured 8 inch loaf pans in moderate 350F oven about 50 minutes.

Makes 2 loaves.
