Black Bottom Pie

Chocolate
1 pkg Gelatin
1/4 cup Water
1/2 cup Sugar
1/4 cup Cornstarch
1/2 tsp Salt
2 cups Milk
4 Eggs
6 oz Chocolate Chip
6 tbs Rum
1/4 tsp Cream 'n Tartar
1/3 cup Sugar
1 Baked Pie Crust

*** Soften unflavored gelatin in water. Separate eggs. In saucepan, mix sugar, cornstarch, salt and milk. Cook, stirring, till mixture thickens (do not boil). Add slightly beaten egg yolks to milk mixture. Cook, stirring, (1-2 minutes till it becomes like custard). Set aside 1 cup of custard mixture. Add chocolate chips and rum to remaining custard and mix till chocolate melts. Pour into baked pie crust. Add gelatin to reserved custard and stir till gelatin dissolves. Chill till this mixture mounds when dropped from a spoon. Whip egg whites with cream of tartar and sugar till soft peaks form. Fold whites into chilled mixture. Pour over chocolate layer.

Refrigerate 6 Hours. Serve.
