Apple Pudding Pie

1 cup sugar
1/4 cup shortening
1 egg, beaten
1 cup flour
1 teaspoon soda
1 teaspoon cinnamon
2-1/2 cups apples, diced
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup nuts, coarsely chopped
Sauce:
1/2 cup margarine
1/2 cup cream
1/2 cup brown sugar
Rum flavoring to taste

Preheat oven to 325F. Cream together the sugar and shortening. Add egg. Sift together flour, soda, salt, and cinnamon. Add dry ingredients to creamed mixture (sugar and shortening).

Then stir in nuts and diced apples. Place in greased and floured large pie pan (9 or 10 inch). Bake at 325F for about 50 minutes. Top with sauce.

Sauce:
Mix together margarine, cream, brown sugar, and flavoring. Cook until thickened and pour over pie. Serve warm.
