Yum-Yum Cake

1 box Duncan Hines yellow cake mix
One 15-ounce can crushed pineapple
1 cup sugar
One 3-ounce package instant vanilla pudding
One 8-ounce package cream cheese
3 bananas
One 16-ounce carton Cool Whip

Preheat oven to 350F. Bake cake according to directions on box. While cake is baking, simmer pineapple and sugar for 5 minutes. Pour over cake while still hot. Set aside. Let cool. Mix soften cream cheese and instant pudding together, Pour over cool cake. Slice bananas. Place on top of cake. Spread Cool Whip over bananas. Sprinkle with nuts and coconut. Garnish with cherries. Let chill 4 hours before serving. (Cake may be frozen.)
