Grated Apple Pie

1 cup sugar
1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Dash of salt
4 cups apple, peeled and coarsely grated
1 egg beaten
1/4 cup plus
2 tablespoons butter, melted
1 unbaked 9 inch pastry shell
1 cup pecans or other nuts, chopped

Preheat oven 400F. Combine sugar, flour, cinnamon, salt and prepared apple, and toss gently. Stir in egg and butter. Spoon mixture into pastry shell; sprinkle with chopped pecans. Bake at 400F for 10 minutes. Reduce oven heat to 350F and bake an additional 50 minutes.

Be sure to bake pie in middle rack, not on high rack as bottom of crust won't cook.

Chill before serving and put a dab of Cool Whip on each serving.
