Vanilla Sauce

1-1/2 cups sugar
3 tablespoons flour
Dash of salt
2 cups milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 teaspoon butter flavoring
Dash of nutmeg (optional)

Mix sugar, flour salt. Add milk. Cook until thickened. Add flavorings. Can be used on: Angel food, carrot, apple and pound cakes. May also substitute rum or lemon flavoring. Serve warm or cold.
