1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground cloves
1 cup butter, softened
2 cups sugar
4 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup buttermilk
1 cup walnuts or pecans, chopped finely (optional)
Glaze:
1/4 cup butter
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/8 cup milk
1 cup confectioners sugar

Preheat oven to 350F. Grease well and flour tube pan. Sift flour with baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon and cloves. Set aside. Turn cake out on rack to finish cooling.
