Gingerbread Syrup Cake

1/2 cup butter or margarine
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 egg, well beaten
1 cup molasses
2-1/2 cup sifted flour
1/2 tsp salt
3 tbs cinnamon
1-1/2 tsp baking soda
1 cup hot water

Cream butter and sugar. Add egg and molasses, mixing well. Sift together dry ingredients and add to first mixture. Add hot water and beat until smooth. Pour into lightly greased and floured 9 inch square pan. Bake at 350F for 35-40 minutes.
