Minted Chocolate Pears

1 cup sugar
2 cups water
1-1/2 tsp vanilla extract
4 small pears
One 7 oz pkg chocolate-covered mint patties
1/4 cup cream

Combine sugar, water and vanilla in glass baking dish. Microwave, covered, on High for 5 minutes or until mixture boils. Peel and core pears; cut into halves. Place in hot mixture. Microwave on High for 2 minutes. Microwave on Medium for 5 minutes or until pears are tender. Cool. Combine mint patties and cream in small glass bowl. Microwave on Medium for 2 minutes or until mints are melted; mix well. Drain pears. Place in serving dishes. Top with chocolate mint sauce. Serve with whipped topping.
