On medium fire, stir sugar and milk until sugar melts. When syrup runs in a thread from spoon (about 2 minutes after it comes to a boll), test by dropping a little into a small amount of water.
When syrup forms a soft ball, remove from fire. Add margarine and vanilla immediately. Stir in pecans. Have a large piece of wax paper, spread out. Drop candy on it from end of spoon. Work fast. ( keep the can of milk handy and add a spoonful if candy begins to harden too fast).
Makes about 60 small ones.
This recipe can be halved using 1 cup solid packed sugar.
