Mix together (in microwave safe 2 quart bowl) buttermilk, pecans, butter, sugar and salt. Cook on high for 12 minutes. While this is cooking, butter about 2 feet of wax paper. Stir baking soda into mixture until it is foamy. Cook for another minute on high. Add vanilla, butter and nut extracts. Stir until tacky, about 10 minutes. Drop by teaspoon onto buttered wax paper.
Makes about 24 pieces.
Pecans can be left out and placed into pralines after they are on wax paper.
