Cream of Broccoli Soup 5

4 cups water
2 cups chopped fresh OR frozen broccoli
2 cups chopped ham
1 medium onion, chopped
1 medium potato, chopped
3 tablespoons butter or margarine
1-1/2 teaspoons whole dried basil
1 teaspoon pepper
1 cube chicken-flavored bouillon
1/2 teaspoon dried thyme leaves
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup milk
Grated Parmesan cheese (optional)

Combine first 11 ingredients in a Dutch oven; bring to a boil, Cover. Reduce heat and simmer 30 minutes or until broccolli is tender, stirring occasionally. Spoon 1/3 of broccolli mixture into container of electric blender or processor; blend or process 20 seconds. Repeat until all ingredients have been blended. Pour mixture back into Dutch oven. Stir in milk, and simmer 20 minutes. Garnish each serving with cheese, if desired.
