Round Steak with Tomato Gravy

2 lb round steak
1-1/2 onions, chopped
One 8 oz can tomato sauce
1 cup sliced mushrooms
2 cups water
1-1/2 tbs oil

In a pot, with oil, brown steak well on both sides (almost starting to burn). Remove steak, add water, onions and pepper. Simmer and stir, scraping bottom of pot. Add steak, lower fire and cover. Cook about 2 hours slowly on low fire, stirring occasionally. Uncover, add mushrooms. Cook 15 minutes more. Serve over rice.
