Apple and Wilted Lettuce Salad

1-1/2 quarts torn romaine lettuce
1 quart torn leaf lettuce
2 Washington Red or Golden Delicious apples, cored and sliced
1/2 cup sliced celery
6 slices bacon
1/3 cup cider vinegar
1/4 cup water
1 pkg Italian salad dressing mix
2 tsp sugar
1/4 cup sliced green onion
Freshly ground pepper

Place greens, apples and celery in salad bowl. Fry bacon until crisp; reserve drippings. Drain and crumble bacon. Add vinegar, water, dressing mix and sugar to drippings. Heat to boiling. Pour over salad; sprinkle with bacon. green onion and pepper. Toss gently. Serve immediately.

Makes 6 servings.
