Red Beets

1 cup vinegar
2 cups cane sugar
2 cans sliced beets
2 thinly sliced onions
1/2 cup water

Drain liquid from beets into pot, add sugar, vinegar and water.

Boil until mixture thickens (about 15 minutes). Add beets and onions to pot and allow to cool. Refrigerate overnight and serve. Serve chilled.
