To coat evenly, put corn meal and okra in a paper or plastic bag and shake.
Cut okra crosswise into 1/2 inch slices; coat with corn meal. Heat 1/2-inch vegetable oil in skillet over medium-high heat. Fry okra until lightly browned, stirring occasionally. Drain on paper towels.
